World-first super-humanoid robot for industrial work with AI boost unveiled by US firm

Mar 24, 2025

Dexterity, a US-based company, has unveiled the world’s first industrial super-humanoid robot, aiming to revolutionize enterprise operations. Named Mech, it is equipped with two arms on a rover. It navigates warehouses and industrial sites, tackling stressful, repetitive tasks with ease. “Mech has been engineered from the ground up to bring human skill and superhuman strength to industrial environments. Leveraging Dexterity’s advanced Physical AI makes tackling new tasks as simple as installing a new app,” said the firm in a blog post. The California-based physical AI and robotics firm’s new product is currently available for truck loading, industrial and enterprise customers, with additional software applications planned for release in 2025 to expand its capabilities. Boosting productivity Built for efficiency, Mech features dual arms with a 5.4-meter armspan and a lifting capacity of 132 pounds (60 kilograms). Its patented shoulder and second elbow enhance dexterity, allowing it to handle complex tasks with ease. The robot’s advanced AI provides a human-like sense of touch, offering precise manipulation and careful handling of various materials, including boxes, parcels, and polybags. Mech, mounted on an agile rover base, spins, strafes, climbs ramps, and maneuvers around workstations. A supercomputer, two vacuum pumps, and an extensive sensor and safety system are all included in the base. Mech can effectively load towering stacks of boxes and manage jobs like truck loading, palletizing, depalletizing, and unloading, thanks to its increased vertical reach of more than eight feet. Productivity is greatly increased by its capacity to finish tasks without shifting positions. Mech is enterprise-ready, designed for seamless integration into any industrial environment. Its adaptability across various tasks makes it ideal for managing workflows from inbound to outbound. Additionally, it supports edge computing for stand-alone operation or can connect to the cloud for remote management. Built to last, Mech’s arms, developed by Kawasaki and Hiwin, ensure long-term reliability with over 10 years of mean time between failures (MTBF). Dexterity claims that Mech, which was created and put together in California, is a prime example of American robotics ingenuity. Mech revolutionizes production and logistics by fusing AI-driven capabilities with industrial-grade strength, resolving labor issues, and boosting operational throughput. AI enhances logistics Dexterity’s Mech operates using Physical AI powered by an onboard supercomputer, running hundreds of AI models to handle complex industrial tasks. It excels in scenarios requiring precise coordination, such as stacking irregularly shaped boxes, maneuvering in confined spaces, and delicately managing fragile packages with its advanced sense of touch. With up to 16 cameras, Mech can sense its environment, recognize objects, and choose the best packaging techniques for jobs like loading and palletizing. It works consistently in temperatures between 32 and 122°F. According to Dexterity, one associate can supervise up to ten mechanics, greatly lowering the number of injuries brought on by heavy lifting and repeated duties. This system is intended to improve workplace safety and productivity. The capabilities of Mech’s software can also be readily increased by adding specialist apps. A truck-loading app was included in its initial version, and later this year, other task-specific apps will be released. According to the company, Mech provides a scalable solution for optimizing industrial processes and logistics with its intelligent automation and flexibility. “Mech represents a major leap forward in our mission to empower people with intelligent, flexible robots that safely and efficiently solve complex, labor-intensive industrial challenges. Combining human-like adaptability with superhuman strength and sophisticated Physical AI, Mech will fundamentally transform logistics operations around the world,” said Samir Menon, CEO and Founder of Dexterity, in a blog post .
