UKHotViews The UK government has issued a tender for a technology partner to process open banking payments in support of the Gov.UK Pay platform. Government Digital Service (GDS) is seeking a Payment Services Provider (PSP) for a new three-year contract, valued at approximately £50m. Having issued an RFI on the topic in 2024, the GDS has now published a market notice to identify an appropriate partner to manage credit card, debit card and pay by bank transactions. The three-year deal will commence in July 2025 with the successful candidate participating in a 12-month onboarding period, prior to the commencement of the service in 2026. The contract is also subject to two 12-month extension options. The Gov.UK Pay platform facilitates digital payments for services across the UK public sector and is used by central government, local authorities, police forces and NHS teams. Worldpay currently manages central government and NHS payments with Stripe used by local authorities, police and government-owned charitable groups. It has been just over five years since the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) introduced open banking to the UK and the reforms have been a tremendous success in the private sector. Both the current and previous UK governments have indicated a keenness to emulate this success and adoption within the public sector has been steadily increasing. In June 2023 the UK Crown Commercial Services (CCS) issued a £800m tender for the provision of open banking and digital Payments Services UK (see: Govt issues £800m open banking tender ).
