Anyscale has announced the release of KubeRay v1.3.0, a major update to its open-source solution for deploying Ray on Kubernetes. This update, unveiled at the Ray Summit 2024, addresses critical issues in observability, reliability, and usability, according to Anyscale. Enhanced Observability KubeRay v1.3.0 introduces significant advancements in observability with the RayCluster Conditions API, which has progressed from alpha to beta status. This API allows users to monitor the state of RayCluster custom resources effectively, aiding in identifying and resolving issues promptly. The update also includes improvements to the RayService controller, enhancing its capacity to handle edge cases and maintain service during upgrades. Improved Reliability Reliability features have been enhanced with the introduction of network transient failure recovery for RayJob. This ensures that long-running jobs can withstand temporary network disruptions without failing. Additionally, KubeRay v1.3.0 incorporates the Ray Autoscaler V2, which is currently in alpha, offering better stability and observability. This component is expected to be a default feature in future releases. Usability Upgrades Usability improvements include the beta release of the Ray Kubectl plugin, which simplifies interactions with Ray on Kubernetes through a set of intuitive commands. The plugin supports actions such as downloading logs, creating clusters, and submitting jobs, thereby streamlining the user experience. Community and Future Developments The KubeRay community has played a vital role in these advancements, contributing over 300 commits from 35 contributors. Anyscale is actively collaborating with the community to refine these developments and is looking forward to the upcoming KubeRay v1.4, inviting feedback and participation through their GitHub page.
